WhatsApp had released some of the features at/after Facebook’s annual developers conference F8, that was recently held on 1-2 May. These WhatsApp update may be and may not be like by the users, because as reported early (WhatsApp co-founder Jan Koum leaving Facebook over an encryption issue) new WhatsApp is destroying the main purpose of developing it. Some of the features are in beta mode too.

Directly moving to all latest updates that are released.

Group Video Calling

After the latest released update, WhatsApp now is available with the group video calling feature that adds up to 4 people in a single video call. Though it is not available for everyone yet, selected iOS and Android users have given right to use it. Soon it will be available for general public.

To use the Group Video Calling, a small icon to connect more people is added to the top right corner when you are on the video call. Android users with version 2.18.145 and above plus iOS users with 2.18.52 version can access this feature.

Share Facebook posts to WhatsApp

Users soon are able to share the Facebook post directly on WhatsApp too. Currently, this feature is in beta mode as claimed by some of the beta users. Officially it is not updated on facebook but as in news soon you will be able to use this feature for sure.

To use this feature, you need to compose the post on the facebook app and need to click on share. After this share on WhatsApp button will be available and from here a link is generated that can be shared to any of the WhatsApp contacts.

Request account info

As per WhatsApp, The Request account info feature allows you to request and export a report of your WhatsApp account information and settings. Examples of this information include your profile picture and group names.

But you can not report your messages to export, but you can download your chat history.

To request a report,

  1. Go to WhatsApp Settings > Account > Request account info.
  2. Tap Request report.
  3. The screen will update to Request sent.

Your report will be available approximately 3 days after you requested. In the report, you will get to know the phone number, previous IP connection, device type, device manufacturer, profile picture, all your contacts’ numbers, groups names that you are part of and the contacts you have blocked.

Restrict group feature

Now if you are admin of a WhatsApp group and wants to restrict group members to send messages, you can do it now. All the members who are in the group other than admin/admins can be now put on to read-only mode, where members can only read messages but can not respond them back. At same WhatsApp sharing photos, videos, Gif can also be restricted by admin.

One admin can also dismiss another admin role by going on to members tab.

WhatsApp Business chat filters

Group admins of WhatsApp for Business can now filter chat that will allow admin to search messages quicker. Chat filter will group all messages in 3 categories:

  1. Unread chats
  2. Groups
  3. Broadcast

To access this category Admin needs to tap on the search bar and look out on these 3 filters.
